RUTO seals a deal with Japan to fund several projects in Kenya worth billions of shillings -




Thursday June 6, 2013 - The trip by Deputy President William Ruto to Japan has yielded many fruits.

First, Ruto sealed a deal with the Japanese Government to fund the modernization of Mombasa Port at the cost of sh30 billion.

Speaking yesterday at JKIA upon arrival from Japan where he represented President Uhuru Kenyatta on the 5th Tokyo International Conference on Africa Development (TICAD), Ruto noted that the Japanese Government had also agreed to construct a free Port and a by-pass at Dongo Kundu through its agency JICA.

The Japanese Government will also fund the expansion of Mwea Irrigation Scheme and rice growing at the total cost of sh20 billion.

The Deputy President also met with the World Bank, Vice President where the World Bank agreed to fund the construction of the 600 kilometer Kitale-Juba Road at the total cost of Ksh50 billion.

Ruto also signed an MOU with JapanGas and Metal Company to mine coal in Kitui and Kwale Counties.

He also met the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, who pledged his support for Kenya in stabilizing Somalia and smooth repatriation of Somali refugees back to their country.
