Political intrigues and machinations have started playing out following the death of Gatundu South Member of Parliament, Joseph Nyumu, and parties are aligning themselves in readiness for the by-election.
Sources close to State House indicate that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s eldest son, Jomo Kenyatta, may be in the race to take back the seat, which was first held by his grandfather, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, and his father, Uhuru Kenyatta, if plans by Uhuru’s TNA see the light of day.
The TNA party is reported to be considering to front Jomo Kenyatta Jr. as its candidate in the yet to be announced by-election in Gatundu South, but is up to him to decide whether to go for it or not although he has the support of his father, Uhuru Kenyatta.
The entrance of the youthful Jomo Kenyatta will make him the youngest MP in Kenya’s history and mark the beginning of his long journey to the presidency just like his father, Uhuru Kenyatta, did when ex-President Daniel Moi picked him from nowhere, nominated him as an MP, made him Minister and now is the President of the Republic of Kenya.
Nyumu succeeded Uhuru Kenyatta as MP for Gatundu in 2013 when he became President thanks to the new Constitution and its time his son, Jomo, took over what rightfully belongs to his family.
However, TNA party is yet to make public the decision to back Jomo for Gatundu MP as they are still exploring other options.
